Dr. Emont is a Principal Research Scientist for Premier Applied Research® with more than 30 years of research experience as a chronic disease epidemiologist. He has worked extensively with healthcare institutions, providers, payers and healthcare companies to design, conduct and evaluate implementation of healthcare innovations on patient outcomes, provider efficiency, cost effectiveness, and patient and provider satisfaction across a large number of disease and behavioral management programs in adult and pediatric populations. Clinical and behavioral areas of interest include asthma, diabetes, blood pressure and cholesterol management, weight management, tobacco and substance use disorders, and self-management support.
Before joining Premier, Dr. Emont was Owner and Principal Scientist at White Mountain Research Associates, LLC, where he provided research and evaluation consulting services in health and healthcare delivery. Prior to that position, he was a Senior Program Officer in Research and Evaluation at the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation in Princeton, NJ, where he designed and managed national programs and evaluations focused on improving the way services are organized and provided to people with chronic health conditions. He also served as Chief Epidemiologist and Director of Research and Evaluation at the Eugene du Pont Preventive Medicine and Rehabilitation Institute at ChristianaCare, as well as Director of the Chronic Disease Division at the Indiana State Department of Public Health. Early in his career, Dr. Emont served a two-year tour of duty as an Epidemic Intelligence Service Officer with the U.S. Public Health Service at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Dr. Emont graduated from Michigan State University with a bachelor’s degree in natural science. He earned his master’s degree in psychology at Bucknell University and Ph.D. in epidemiology at SUNY at Buffalo. He also completed postdoctoral training in psychology/pharmacology at the University of Rochester. Dr. Emont is the author of multiple publications and white papers focusing on clinical care delivery and quality improvement, chronic disease management, addiction research and behavioral health.
